As you know I love NHL ’94, so making a design for the game was something I always wanted to do. I just didn’t until now because many others have already done such a design, so I wanted to do a unique take. Originally I was going to make this design based on the box art (black stripes and lettering on a white jersey), but it looked too boring.
I posted this on Twitter and Facebook yesterday (if you follow me on either, thanks), but with official NHL, NHLPA, and EA Sports logos included. To make this safe for Geeky Jerseys to potentially make, I made my own versions of these logos. And yes, head bleeds were in ’93 only so I made an exception for fun.
My first wallpaper for this blog is an NHL ’94 version of Bobby Orr’s famous “leaping” goal from 1970. I drew sprites for Bobby Orr, the goalie, and the player who tripped Orr. I then edited the goal crease and removed some helmets to reflect the 70’s era.
I’m contemplating doing a few others, such as Paul Henderson’s ’72 goal, the USA Miracle on Ice celebration, the Golden Goal from 2010 (Crosby), and that’s all that comes to mind right now.
After the jump: a version of the wallpaper with a star, and another version with the game’s UI (4:3 sizes too).
With the release of NHL ’14 only days away, I thought I’d make an alternate cover for the game in the style of NHL ’94, seeing as they included the much-hyped Legacy Mode this year. Feel free to print this sucker and place it into your copy.
I used the Genesis box art because the Super Nintendo version wouldn’t translate all that well to a contemporary game case. I omitted the legalese and I shrunk the ESRB Rating to match whatever rating system was on that Genesis cover. Other than that it looks like the real deal.
PS3 fans: If this cover proves to be popular I’ll make a PS3 one too (I’ll update this post). These game covers are a lot of work! Speaking of which, I learned that I hate writing copy. The folks who have to write the blurbs for physical media packaging are heroes.
If you like this please check out this NHL ’94 Chair Mat on my other blog.
UPDATE: The PS3 cover has now been added. Special thanks to Deviantartist AdrianThomassen92 for the template.
