Category Archives: Hockey Jersey Design
About a year ago I had a request-a-thon on Facebook that led to Wyld Stallyns winning the popular vote. I apologize that it took so long to make, I didn’t find the right inspiration until I remembered the Detroit Pistons logo from the mid 90’s to early 2000’s.
The shoulder logos are a riff on the Doctor Who ‘DW’ phone booth logo. The back patch is a nod to Death, the Grim Reaper from the sequel. The colors are definitely mid-90’s, when teal was all the rage.
Sorry for the long sabbatical, I will ease back into things with something simple: a jersey based on the Mobile Infantry flag from Starship Troopers. The ‘Victory’ patch is based on a flag seen in the cafeteria fight scene (with Mazzy Star playing in the background), the ‘Death From Above’ patch is based on the tattoos adorned by the Roughnecks.
I have posted stuff based on Starship Troopers before, but I deleted them all because they look so weird to me now. I have a tendency to quietly tinker with older stuff, but this was such a departure it merited a new post.
Also, this film turns 20 this year, so let that sink in (you’re welcome).
Sorry for the lack of new posts, I hope I can make up for that real soon. To start things off, here is a jersey based on the Greatest American Hero, a callback to a time when television had only one superhero show in prime time (this show came on after The Incredible Hulk was canned). Nowadays, there’s a superhero show on TV every night. You whippersnappers got it real good! Read the rest of this entry
Two designs for your eyeballs today, so I hope you can forgive the lack of shoulder patches on both (at least for now). I present hockey jersey designs for the X-Men and the Sentinels.
For the Mutants I wanted a subtle ‘X’ in the main logo, hence the crossed claws of Wolverine. For the Sentinels I gave a shout-out to the 90’s cartoon intro, where mutant-grabbing cables extruded from the hands.
I doubt either of these could be offered, but I’ve been wrong before.
UPDATE (Feb 14/2017): I just put the finishing touches on a 3rd X-Men design, the Hellfire Club. It is based on the uniforms worn by the hockey program at Harvard.
UPDATE (Nov 1st 2016): went with a ‘less-is-more’ approach for this design. The old logo had the stair car itself, which, let’s face it, was too busy/ugly to look at. There are two older designs for the Stair Car and Banana Stand as well.
This is a long overdue design, I just couldn’t arrive at an idea until very recently. A few folks requested an Initech-themed design, but the company logo and colors bored me to tears (probably the design’s intention). So I decided to make Milton’s red Swingline stapler the core theme. Hope you like it.
In the wake of Netflix signing Adam Sandler to a 5-picture deal, my first thought was they should’ve signed Mike Judge instead! Judge makes terrific low-budget comedies that never seem to fit with the traditional studio model, and Netflix would be a perfect home for his films. Hard to believe it’s been 7 years since his last film. Read the rest of this entry
