NHL 2021 Proposed Schedule

The 2021 NHL season is up in the air right now, and if it were up to me I would do the bubble system again, this time in 8 Canadian cities (with Quebec City lending a hand). Teams will play within their conference.

48 games broken up into 4 sessions, 12 games each. Each session will take place in a different bubble city for every team. The above image is the first session, the remaining 3 sessions would see all the teams shuffled around within their conference.

All games will be against opponents in the same conference. There are 4 western bubble cities, 4 eastern bubble cities. Teams will play each other 4 times in each session (in the Winnipeg bubble, teams will play each other 6 times). The schedule:

  • First Session: Bubble City A – 12 games (followed by 10-day break)
  • Second Session: Bubble City B – 12 games (followed by 10-day break)
  • Third Session: Bubble City C – 12 games (followed by 10-day break)
  • Fourth Session: Bubble City D – 12 games (followed by 3-day break)
  • Playoffs will take place in all 8 bubble cities, to prevent the triple OT madness that happened this year.

Each session will take about 24 – 26 days. The 10-day breaks between sessions will allow players to visit their families, and to travel between the bubble cities. The shorter 3-day break before the playoffs is just for travel. So this season will still take about 6 and a half months to play.

Calgary Flames Hockey Jersey Design

The Calgary Flames released a black alternate jersey in the late 90’s that fans have nicknamed Blasty, because of the horse’s fiery breath. I like that jersey (and still own one), my only complaint: too many outlines on the numbers.

Thought I would update Blasty and relegate him to the shoulders, because their primary logo looks really good on black. I want to nickname this one Lanny, because it almost looks like he is sporting Lanny McDonald’s famous moustache.

The Flames recently switched back to their original jerseys (yay!) so I kept the layout simple. The numbers are borrowed from their last alternate jersey.

Prince George Cougars Hockey Jersey Design

Prince George Cougars WHL logo

I used to call Prince George home many years ago, and I always felt their WHL team could look a bit more regal to match the city name (I do kinda like their current Thundercats logo). I added a few axes because the city is a forestry hub. The shoulder patch logo mixes a crown and paw together.

The Expanse Hockey Jersey Designs

First off is the Belters, which pays homage to their mining of the outer asteroid belt (along with a few nods to their Creole culture). The Pittsburgh Steelers felt like a good fit for this design.

The Martians borrow their main logo from Martini Racing, and the overall design matches their military uniform somewhat. Wish I could fit a vertical silver stripe on the front, it just won’t fit.

No UN design yet, maybe one day. I’ve actually been sitting on these two designs for a few years now, because I felt the factions on the show were becoming less relevant to the story. Sharing them now because why not?

Stargate SG-1 Hockey Jersey Design

Went with the obvious US Air Force theme here, starting with the main logo (number 13 shown here) which I spruced up with Captain America’s SSR logo. The black body represents the flak jackets worn by the characters on the show. I know it’s simple but I tend to lean towards old-school hockey fashion.
